Altova Xmlspy is the perfect XML editor for developers who need to create, edit, validate, and transform XML for any type of application. It comes with all the features you’d expect in an advanced text editor like regular expressions search and replace, code folding, syntax highlighting, debugging support. But it also includes powerful tools that enable developers to write XML by hand without needing complex knowledge about DTDs or schemas or predefined vocabularies. It also lets them build their own custom XML markup language extensions using the scripting API that provides direct access to hundreds of internal data structures. This enables developers to create new Web services, or extend existing ones to support programming languages other than Java. Altova Xmlspy comes with extensive documentation, built-in help and tutorials, plug-ins for Visual Studio .NET, Eclipse IDE and Stonefield Query. It also comes with over 20 sample projects that demonstrate how to use the application’s capabilities for solving real world XML tasks. Xmlspy uses the XMLSpy Scripting Registry (XSR) that provides a way to share scripts between multiple XMLSpy installations without having to move the scripts from one installation to another. Altova Xmlspy is a commercial product for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X. The license model allows for personal use of the software on up to two computers. The commercial version of Altova Xmlspy also comes with technical support that includes telephone support, free updates, downloads for new versions of the product, access to online help and online documentation. XMLSpy Scripting Registry (XSR) provides a way to share scripts between multiple installations of Altova Xmlspy without having to move the scripts from one installation to another. Altova offers commercial versions of their software that provide extended support including help desk support, online documentation and technical support through phone or email. Altova has a third party services program which offers support on a wide range of XML related technologies. Version 2.0 was released in 2005. Version 3 contained many new features including the addition of an Eclipse plug-in and a Visual Studio plug-in as well as a new user interface for the Schema Editor. New features in version 3.1 include XPath variables, custom toolbars, auto-completion in the schema tab, bookmarking groups in the scripting tab, online "cookbook" help, and much more. Version 4.0 was released in February 2007, with a big overhaul of the visual interface making it easier to navigate and use, as well as many new features including support for editing XML documents interactively, WYSIWYG-style editing tools for code snippets, interactive TreeViews that include an "expand/collapse" tree node, intelligent XML validation with full syntax checking, XSLT extension scripting for XPath data transformations. Version 4.1 was released in December 2007. This version allows developers to create programs or web services based on their own custom XML languages using the scripting API. This is the same scripting API used by OASIS OpenOffice Applications Services 1. cfa1e77820
